Strategies to Limit Pressure
- Cushion-Type Grip – Use any of these grips: original, classic and egg.
- Mechanical Pencil – The pencil tips will break if too much pressure is applied, which will help teach your child to correct the amount of force they use.
- Foam Sheet – Place a thin foam sheet under your child’s paper and have your child practice not breaking or pushing through the paper while writing / drawing.
- Sandpaper – Add sensory feedback as your child writes so they can better understand what their hand is doing.
- Put a piece of sandpaper under the paper your child is writing / drawing on. This will help them get a better sense of the muscles they are using and a more accurate understanding of the pressure they are using.
- Vibrating Pen – Use a vibrating pen to give your child sensory feedback while writing (this can also help strengthen a weak grasp).
